I have decided to throw in this shot of the N-Gage booth, because I think I said I would back on the first page. The
question that springs to mind, of course, is why? Nuon learned their lesson, as did GP32, Gizmondo and countless others.
Why does Nokia persist in their madness? Does anyone own an N-Gage, or know anyone that does? Does it really exist? Have
we all been Punk'd?
Konami wants me to buy a PSP as well. Silent Hill 0rigins is not a remake of the first game as originally suspected, but
a new adventure. It features a man driving a big rig and lots of meat hanging from hooks and festering in sinks. Can't
wait.
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Like any red-blooded gamer, I love Castlevania, but I'm not to happy with the bland,
anime direction of the artwork. I thought that style was the hallmark of Soma Cruz, but I'm not even sure if hes in
this one. Minor gripe aside, it looked good.
Konami's reception desk looked vaguely evil. I have provided the Japanese Silent Hill 2 boxart for comparison.
It was now about 5:40 as I settled down into my customary end-of-show spot. On my back, with my backback as a pillow,
above me, Konami's giant screen in all its glory. I could finally relax, having seen everything I aimed to, and just
let the images of awful Frogger games and Dance Dance Revolution part 900 wash over me.
As I faded in and out of conciousness, I think I half-imagined a Bomberman game with a serious storyline. Did I miss
another name change, perhaps to Konami Hudson? It wouldn't be suprising these days, with companies tripping over each other to
buy their peers.
As has been my custom for the past 5 years or so, I contemplated my perspective on the video gaming universe. Did anything I see
really excite me? Would I ever feel about games again as I did "back in the day"? Did I really care anymore? Perhaps more importantly,
was I utterly out of touch with current gaming? I don't like MMOs, "urban" games, or rhythem games. I pine for the 2D
sensibilities of ages past. I wasn't really sure If I liked the Wii, and if I didn't have that, well there was pretty much
zip to look forward to.
The MGS4 trailer finally started and simultaneously, the screen went black. I now noticed that all the other screens in booth were
black as well. My story at E3 2006 was now over, and it was time to fight traffic. I would pass on my badge to someone else who
I think has been disillusioned with gaming for longer than even I. His highlight was a picture with the Age of Conan girls.
